Amad could get chance to redeem himself for Rangers with upcoming Celtic clash

Amad has a big opportunity this weekend to potentially relaunch his Rangers career.

The Manchester United youngster got off to a dream start with Rangers, scoring just four minutes into his debut.

Then it all went a bit wrong. Amad started the next match against Celtic, where Rangers were abject defensively, and he found himself substituted after 45 minutes.

It hasn’t quite been the same for Amad since. While it was unfair to blame him for Rangers’ performance that day, Amad was still left with the stink of the team’s performance that day, where the fans were concerned.

His manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has dropped him out of the Rangers starting line-up, and Amad did not play a single minute of Rangers’ big Europa League ties against Borussia Dortmund or Red Star Belgrade.

Where Rangers are concerned, it’s all a bit underwhelming. The fans thought they were getting a big up and coming superstar from Manchester United, and they are yet to see it. United too are likely frustrated at his lack of game time.

Moving forward

So in the coming weeks Amad needs something to go right, so that he can turn his loan move into a success, it’s still possible.

This weekend Rangers fave Celtic for the first time since their February defeat, and they have home advantage. It is a pivotal fixture at the top of the Premiership.

It is unlikely Amad starts the game, but there is a chance he is involved. A few minutes may be all he gets, and it could be all he needs.

Amad just needs one thing to go right for him, and if it does, against Celtic, then everything changes for him up in Scotland.

Amad is focused and hopes to end the season strongly. Making an impact against Celtic at Ibrox would make him an instant hero, and Van Bronckhorst should give him some kind of opportunity.

There is a cup semi-final against Celtic too later in April for Amad and Rangers to also look ahead to. In the league Rangers are just three points behind Celtic, so this weekend’s game is critical.

Whether Rangers win the league or not will define how Amad’s loan is viewed in Scotland. If they do it, then the move will be seen as a worthwhile gamble, but if they fall short, it will be seen as a mis-step with the club needing a more proven player.

Amad needs to be given a fair chance too to shape people’s opinions himself. That could begin with a big contribution against Celtic on Sunday lunchtime.
