Amad Diallo tells Man Utd fans what formation the Man Utd team were playing against Bournemouth at Old Trafford

There were major question marks ahead of Manchester United’s 4-4 draw against Bournemouth over what formation the Red Devils would play on Monday.

Ruben Amorim was forced to wait to find out whether or not soon-to-be AFCON trio Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui and Bryan Mbeumo would be eligible to play.

The 40-year-old United manager has deployed his side in a 3-4-2-1 formation in his tactical system for matches, but the Red Devils’ set-up felt different on Monday.

Speaking to MUTV, Amad admitted that United’s formation has kept on shifting and embraced a four-man backline at different intervals of matches this season.

“I think it depends on the opponent,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We work depending on the opponent, when sometimes we play as a 4-4-2, sometimes we play as a 3-4-3, sometimes also we play 4-3-3, maybe people outside don’t see. As a team, we can change.

“But the system doesn’t matter for us. Today, [the focus] was to win this game, so we are really disappointed, but at the same time, we take one point and then we’re going to prepare the next game.”

Ruben Amorim asked about Man Utd playing with a back-four vs Bournemouth in the Premier League match

United caught the eye on Monday evening for how the Red Devils could have four defenders in line when Amorim’s men were out of possession against Bournemouth.

Speaking at his post-match press conference at Old Trafford, Amorim confirmed rumblings that United had been training with a back-four line-up this week.

“It’s for you two to discuss, not for me. I will say the same thing,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“You can play with the same players, [it] looks like one thing, [it] is another thing.

“Now, guys, it’s for you to [discuss]. I know that you guys know that I trained this week, the back four.

“I don’t know how, but that is a good thing for you guys to discuss this week.”

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are level on points with fifth-place Crystal Palace and seventh-place Liverpool.
