Facundo Pellistri was the late hero as Manchester United came from behind to claim a draw against Athletic Bilbao.

For the third pre-season in a row, Facundo Pellistri got on the scoresheet for Manchester United.

In 2021 he netted in the first game against Derby, and 2022 also in the opener against Liverpool.

This time around in 2023 Pellistri left it until the final minute of the eighth and final game, and made sure he delivered, to secure a 1-1 draw.

Facundo Pellistri saves the best until last

Facundo Pellistri missed the early pre-season games due to returning late due to his international involvement for Uruguay.

This match against Athletic Bilbao was the first match he had played all 90 minutes in, and he will be pleased Erik ten Hag stuck with him.

He took his chance coolly after drifting into space inside the box, with Harry Maguire atoning for his earlier error by providing the assist.

Pellistri sent a message on Instagram after the game which read: “feeling good 😄 great team spirit 👊🏼”

He received responses from teammates Diogo Dalot, Alvaro Fernandez, Amad, and Kobbie Mainoo, each of them who wanted to show Pellistri some support.

Facundo Pellistri expected to leave on loan

Facundo Pellistri finally made his first team debut last season, also making a first start in the Europa League. That was progress, it just wasn’t enough.

He needs regular football and is expected to leave on loan, although it is possible Amad’s injury could prompt United to re-assess.

United must choose his club carefully if he does head on loan. His earlier move to Alaves was not helpful as they were battling relegation from La Liga.
