Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez made a positive impression after making his Preston North End debut, according to the LEP.

The 19-year-old joined the Lilywhites on a season-long loan on Tuesday and he made his debut for Ryan Lowe’s side in yesterday’s 0-0 draw at Wigan Athletic.

The former Real Madrid youngster is embarking on his first loan move away from Old Trafford and having only had a few days to train and get use to his new environment, Fernandez looks to have made a positive start to life at Deepdale.

Fernandez came off the bench to replace former Red Devil Robbie Brady and play the last 20 minutes at the DW Stadium at left wing-back.

The Spain Under-19 international had 13 touches against the Latics, creating one chance as well as making one tackle and winning two duels, according to SofaScore.

Preston’s new number two was given a six rating by the Lancashire Evening Post for his debut performance.

Their report read: “Looked like he could be quite exciting, particularly on the ball, when his chance comes. Was positive in possession and looked to go forward, though he still needs to get used to the level.”

Marauding and galloping forward from deep has been a trademark of Fernandez’s performances for the United youth sides since he joined the club.

From 62 appearances for United’s academy sides, Fernandez has contributed seven goals and 12 assists.

The youngster loves to bomb forward and be a constant attacking outlet, but testing himself in arguably one of the most physical and competitive leagues in the world is only going to benefit Fernandez’s defensive attributes and tactical nous.

Fernandez will be targeting further minutes ahead of Preston’s first home game of the season, which comes against Hull City on Saturday.
