Alexandre Pato and Richarlison send messages to Manchester United ‘Monster’ after win v Liverpool

Manchester United hope Antony will be able to turn his career around. The win against Liverpool was a great start.

There have been many issues with Antony this season at Manchester United, with off-field problems contributing to his on-pitch struggles.

It is clear the big money signing has been lacking confidence, and this has been hard to come by lately, as he has been reduced from a regular starter to an occasional substitute.

His big contribution in Manchester United’s win over Liverpool is the moment he needed, his first significant contribution to the team’s season.

Antony scores vital goal

While every goal Manchester United scored was crucial in the 4-3 win over Liverpool, Antony’s was a particularly huge contribution.

Liverpool had dominated the second half prior to his intervention, and his rare goal was the equaliser to take the game to extra-time at 2-2.

Antony’s goal was scored with his weaker right foot, guiding the ball into the bottom corner with an instinctive turn inside the penalty box.

He was praised after the game by teammates past and present, with David de Gea reaching out to tell him he ‘deserves’ to enjoy his moment.

There was also praise from his fellow Brazilians, with former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato reaching out on Instagram to laud him as a ‘monster’, while Tottenham forward Richarlison also showed his applause.

Antony not part of Brazil squad

Antony will play no part for Brazil during the upcoming international break, he is not part of their squad, and has not been all season.

At this point, it’s unclear whether his non-selection is for off-field reasons, or due to his poor performances, you could make a case for either.

This goal can act as a turning point for Antony, ahead of a busy April. It won’t necessarily mean he will be back in United’s starting line-up, but if he can consistently start making an impact from the bench like this, then it will become difficult to leave him out.
