United summer signing Matthijs de Ligt fired the Red Devils into the lead in the first half before Marcus Rashford doubled his side’s advantage six minutes later.
Alejandro Garnacho then slammed home United’s third in second-half injury time to ensure that Ten Hag’s men sealed all three Premier League points.

Garnacho’s brother hits back
Alejandro Garnacho has faced increasing competition for a place in the Manchester United XI after Amad Diallo’s stunning run of form at the Red Devils.
The 20-year-old Spain-born winger has featured in all four Premier League matches this season, but Garnacho has only managed one start for the Red Devils.
Amad Diallo has managed to keep his place ahead of Garnacho, whose only Premier League start came against Liverpool in the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
Despite being kept out of the starting XI, Garnacho has made an impact from the bench for United in matches across all competitions this season.
Garnacho came off the bench in the Community Shield clash in August and the United star scored against Premier League rivals Manchester City at Wembley.
The Argentina international also picked up an assist in the Premier League opener against Fulham after he came off the bench to set up Joshua Zirkzee.
Garnacho replaced Marcus Rashford in the second half against Southampton and opened his goalscoring account in the Premier League with a fine finish in injury time.
The United star’s brother took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and pulled no punches towards Garnacho’s critics.
“[Five] games, [four] G/A BTW, [one] start,” Roberto Garnacho tweeted.
Ten Hag reacts to Garnacho vs Southampton
Following on from United’s win, Erik ten Hag welcomed the performance from Garnacho and the attitude that the Argentina star showed as a substitute.
“I think we should have scored earlier on, we had the chances and we had the control, and we create some good chances to score the third goal earlier on,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“Of course, we are happy when you bring a sub on who has an impact and he [Garnacho] was the one who downsized the opponent to 10 with a good action and then a good finish.
“I think also the rest [of Garnacho’s performance], I was happy with this sub and that is how players should act from the bench and we need more from this.”
