Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has posted a public apology after the 3-3 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday evening.

United headed to Istanbul knowing that a win was needed to spark life back into Erik ten Hag’s Champions League campaign.

It was all going so well; Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes had United 2-0 up before Hakim Ziyech found a goal back for Galatasaray.

Scott McTominay restored the two-goal advantage but United crumbled with Ziyech finding a second before Kerem Akturkoglu fired past Andre Onana.

This was a hectic game and there were so many chances to win it even after being pegged back to 3-3, but United had to settle for a point.

United had this game at 2-0 and 3-1, so to come away with just a point feels like a kick to the gut.

There was a real lack of control of the game at 3-1 and goalscorer Garnacho has now apologised to United fans.

Garnacho has taken to Instagram tonight, starting his message with ‘Sorry United fans’.

The Argentinian suggested that United players must be aware of the demands that come with wanting to win Champions League games.

Garnacho, who opened the scoring in fine fashion, seemingly feels that United just didn’t manage the game well enough at all and came up short in the big moments.

Garnacho added that United now have one group stage game left and will do ‘everything possible’ to try and reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

United’s Champions League fate analysed

United still sit bottom of Group A with just four points from five games.

All hope is not lost yet though, even if United have something of a mountain to climb in the final group stage game.

FC Copenhagen have secured a point tonight, securing a 0-0 draw away at Bayern Munich.

Bayern seemed to have won a late penalty but that was chalked off, meaning the game ended in stalemate.

That means United now need to beat Bayern at Old Trafford next month and hope for the right result when Galatasaray travel to Copenhagen.

United would need a draw between those two sides; a win for either of them would end Ten Hag’s hopes.

Garnacho clearly still believes but United will be left hoping and praying rather than expecting after throwing away a win in Turkey.
