Manchester United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho was thrilled to see Argentina win the World Cup.

The 18-year-old was called into the Argentina squad earlier this year and will hope to play a future role in his country’s success.

This time around he watched from back home in Manchester, as Red Devils teammate Lisandro Martinez lifted the trophy, along with Argentine icon Lionel Messi.

Argentina won the World Cup after a dramatic 3-3 draw, before winning 4-2 on penalties.

Garnacho reacts to Martinez and Messi success

Alejandro Garnacho has had to win fans over in Argentina a little, who wondered how committed he was to his country, who he qualifies for through his parents.

He was born in Spain, and has had a real admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi’s long-time rival. There’s room for both in his life.

Garnacho showed there was no questioning how he felt about Argentina as he lapped up his nation’s 2022 World Cup success.

He joined United colleagues Facundo Pellistri and Marc Jurado by responding to Lisandro Martinez’s Instagram post.

Separately, Alejandro Garnacho sent a simple response to Lionel Messi’s Instagram post celebrating his famous World Cup win.

Garnacho has trained with the Argentina senior squad previously, in addition to featuring for their under-20 side.

His late flourish for Manchester United before the World Cup break raised the possibility of a call-up for this tournament. This didn’t quite happen, but if he carries on his progress, he will likely have a big role to play for his country in 2026.
