Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has been picked out to be a key player for the club this coming season.

The 19-year-old could be in line to start the season opener against Wolves, after being selected in the friendly against Lens last week at Old Trafford.

Alejandro Garnacho made his first team breakthrough last season, scoring goals for the club in the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.

He has looked lively in pre-season and will be looking to make another leap forward in 2023/24.

Alejandro Garnacho potential

ESPN commentator Ian Darke believes Alejandro Garnacho could be the key to Manchester United’s season.

Darke told ESPN FC: “I think this lad Garnacho might make serious strides forward.

“I know he’s used off the bench mainly but every time he is used off the bench he seems to make a bit of an impression.

“I wonder whether he might force his way in this season.”

Young Cristiano Ronaldo

Garnacho faces a challenge to establish himself as a regular starter because he is competing for Marcus Rashford for a spot on the left.

However, with Marcus Rashford expected to start in the centre against Wolves due to Rasmus Hojlund’s injury, Garnacho could be picked to start on the left wing.

The teenager has the electricity in his game to lift the crowd and is reminiscent of a young Cristiano Ronaldo. He will want to become a regular starter, somehow, rather than become known as an impact substitute.

Last season he did only make five Premier League starts. He will be aiming for around 20 plus this season, that will be a sign of progress. He could end up with three by the end of August.

When he is on the pitch he normally produces, so it will be fascinating to see if he can take a leap forward.
