Alejandro Garnacho is not a stranger to a slap on the wrist.
The youngster has been reminded of his role and responsibility at Manchester United in the past, with former manager Erik ten Hag initially playing the role as bad cop with help from his captain Bruno Fernandes.
In 2022, Fernandes suggested that Ten Hag took his time introducing Alejandro Garnacho to United’s first-team due to problems with his attitude.
Garnacho responded the right way by putting his head down and letting his feet do the talking. It bodes well for the future because the Argentina international finds himself in a similar situation under newly appointed head coach Ruben Amorim.
It remains to be seen if he will be involved when United take on Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend. Garnacho has yet to score against the Merseyside outfit.

Alejandro Garnacho punished for attitude towards Ruben Amorim
Garnacho was axed from the United squad for the Manchester derby last month along with Marcus Rashford.
Furthermore, the 20-year-old has been on the bench for the last four games. To make matters worse, United have lost all four and failed to score in three.

According to the Daily Mail, Garnacho was dropped for the Manchester derby after appearing to turn his back on Amorim and walking away while the United boss was giving him instructions on the touchline before he came on against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
The incident occurred three days before United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.
United declined to comment but sources told the Mail there is no rift between Amorim and Garnacho and the player has not been frozen out of the squad. It’s a further example of how Amorim is setting high standards for the players since taking over.
Garnacho is still a young player with time to learn from childish mistakes. With help from experienced professionals like Fernandes, he should learn how to carry himself and take instructions from his manager.
The forward’s representatives told the Mail that he meant no disrespect towards the manager and that it was simply a matter of miscommunication, which would explain why there is no rift between the pair.
Alejandro Garnacho stats 2024/25
Although Garnacho has scored just three goals in the Premier League so far this season, the United academy graduate is one of the senior team’s top scorers with eight goals across all competitions.
Most of those goals have come in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, while Garnacho has managed just one goal in the Europa League. It’s something he can hopefully add to in the remaining matches as United look to qualify for the knockout phase.
| Games | Goals | Assists |
| 28 | 8 | 4 |
It would be a greater help if other players started chipping in with goals along with Garnacho.
United have been conceding too many goals and not putting their chances away. It’s down to our forward players, including Garnacho, to put the ball in the back of net.
If Garnacho can get back to scoring goals he’ll eventually find himself back in the team.
