Big decision now to make

Garnacho is being tested here with a huge decision over his future, with Argentina making a play for his services.

The youngster was born in Madrid and Manchester United signed him from Atletico in 2020.

He has been outstanding this season for the under-18s, scoring four goals in four games to help United reach the FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

Garnacho has 14 goals in all competitions, which include two goals at under-23 level, plus a further five assists.

He has previously represented Spain at under-18s level, and had appeared on course to represent them at senior level one day.

Perhaps encouraged by his decision to sign with a club in England and leave the country where he was born, Argentina have discovered he is eligible to play for them and are making a play to get him to commit.

Argentina have already qualified for the 2022 World Cup and have called a number of youngsters into their upcoming senior squad to experiment.

In addition to Garnacho, 17, these include Tiago Geralnik, 18, of Villarreal, and Luka Romero of Lazio, 17.

The decision comes as a distraction to Garnacho ahead of this week’s FA Youth Cup semi-final against Wolves at Old Trafford.

The opportunity to play for Argentina is a huge one, but at just 17, he may just wish to keep his options open for now.
