Former Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho now faces one of his fears at Chelsea.
Alejandro Garnacho took the biggest gamble of his career in the summer when he forced an exit from Manchester United to Chelsea.
While Ruben Amorim had closed the first team door to Garnacho at United, the club preferred not to sell him to a Premier League competitor.

Garnacho’s total insistence on signing for Chelsea meant that United were unable to get the maximum possible price for him, weakening Ineos’ negotiating hand.
United had to settle for £40 million, a low fee for a player of his potential, even if his subsequent performances have made the valuation seem like it was in United’s favour.
Now with Enzo Maresca quitting Chelsea on New Year’s Day, the forward faces new uncertainty.
Will Man Utd ever REGRET selling Alejandro Garnacho?
Who was more to blame in this saga?
Alejandro Garnacho at risk
Alejandro Garnacho now faces the scenario that led to his undoing at Manchester United.
Garnacho was a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at United, before the Dutchman was fired in October 2024.
The change in management led to Garnacho’s downfall, with new head coach Ruben Amorim introducing a style of play that ultimately did not suit him.
This led to Garnacho becoming frustrated and accelerating his own exit after venting on social media.
Earlier this season, Garnacho told how he was confident about working with Chelsea manager Maresca.
He said: “I spoke with him [before the summer transfer], and he explained to me a little bit of everything.
“Now working together, I think we’re doing well. We’re going to improve with time, it’s just three months.
“He trusts me; it’s the most important. We have the confidence, and we’re going to improve.”
And even with Garnacho’s inconsistent contributions at Chelsea, Maresca was publicly satisfied with the way it was going.
“Some games he is better, some games he has struggled a little bit, but overall he is doing very well.”

Manchester United may have sold high
The managerial change may end up benefitting Alejandro Garnacho. But in all likelihood, it will backfire on him.
Chelsea are known for their rapid player turnover, with Garnacho one of several wingers at the club already competing for positions.
With a new coach incoming, who will want to sign his own players, Garnacho could find it even more difficult, even if Maresca’s replacement has tactics that suit his style.
At this point, United will feel quite comfortable with the pure profit made on the former FA Youth Cup winner, with Garnacho scoring just one Premier League goal for Chelsea all season.
