Alejandro Garnacho could make his Argentina debut later today when the Albiceleste take on Australia.

Argentina face Australia at 1pm UK time in Beijing today in an international friendly. It could be Alejandro Garnacho‘s first appearance for his country.

While El Futbolero report Garnacho could begin the game on the bench, he is likely to have some involvement.

Days later, a second match will follow against Indonesia, where he could start. Garnacho has received plenty of encouragement.

Alejandro Garnacho ahead of debut

Alejandro Garnacho has spent the last few days training alongside Argentina’s top stars, from Lionel Messi to Angel di Maria.

Manager Lionel Scaloni is keen to see the 18-year-old in action, and Garnacho explains what he has been told ahead of his potential senior international debut.

Garnacho is quoted by ESPN: “I spoke with Scaloni while I was here and he told me that he is going to give me the opportunity to play.

“He asked me if I was nervous and I said no. He asked me to be one more, to be myself.

“I’m young and I’m starting in the Manchester United first team and now in the senior team. Every time I have to play, I try to be me.”

It’s a really good point, that if Alejandro Garnacho can carry the weight of the Manchester United badge, and embrace it as he has done, then he will cope just fine for Argentina.

Scaloni was asked about Garnacho in his press conference. He responded, pointing towards other young players he has as options too.

He told MDZ: “He idea is that they can add minutes, play and feel comfortable with the other teammates, not so much think about the result. Performance, yes, and that these guys have already had a few minutes in the National Team’s shirt.”

Argentina’s World Cup qualifying campaign begins in September. These fixtures are a chance for the country to warm up, and start moving forward, after the celebrations of their 2022 tournament win.

Garnacho hopes to be a key player at 2026. His journey starts now, he just has to be himself.
