Alejandro Garnacho and Alvaro Fernandez pictured in first team training
Manchester United have welcomed Alejandro Garnacho and Alvaro Fernandez into first team training ahead of Saturday’s match with Norwich City.
The young duo will boost United’s attacking and defensive options amid a host of injury issues, with Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw, Fred, Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane all ruled out of the fixture.
Fernandez, 19, an Garnacho, 17, were both pictured with United’s stars at Carrington.
Earlier today we wrote how Fernandez could be in line for extra opportunities after the extent of Luke Shaw’s injury problems became apparent.
The young left-back has eight assists and four goals for the under-23s this season, while Garnacho has scored 16 goals combine for the under-23s and under-18s.
Garnacho recently was called up into the Argentina national squad and trained with Lionel Messi, and so won’t be phased by the call-up.
He first trained with the United first team last week, while Fernandez first did so back in September.
Midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been training with the first team all week and could be in contention to start amid the injury issues in midfield.
He was on the bench last week, and crucially this week, there is no under-23 game, making this the ideal fixture to mix in the youngster, with Norwich bottom of the league.
Teenager Anthony Elanga could also start, having been a regular under Ralf Rangnick ever since the interim manager took charge.
