Alan Shearer hasn’t a clue what Erik ten Hag is on about with something he ‘keeps saying’

Manchester United lost for the eighth time in the Premier League this season.

Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff need to rectify some burning issues in the first-team squad, with the main issue being the lack of goals.

His side have gone four games now without a goal, with a lot of this down to a Premier League drought for Rasmus Hojlund.

But this isn’t the only issue. The whole team needs work, as they just don’t seem to gel at the moment.

Alan Shearer on Erik ten Hag

Speaking on Match of the Day, Alan Shearer picked out something that Ten Hag ‘keeps saying’, which rings true about the Manchester United side.

He said: “Ten Hag keeps saying we’ve got to stick to the plan, I don’t have a clue what that plan is, to be honest, and I’ve been watching Manchester United quite a lot this season.”

Ten Hag was clear on this in his post-match:

“At United, everybody has to take responsibility. We have to be calm, stick together, stick to the plan, we have to do it together and keep calm.”

It is something that keeps coming up, which begs the question… what exactly is the plan?

Manchester United lack a ‘plan’

Manchester United simply do not have a style of play.

Every game seems to be different, and this ‘plan’ that Ten Hag keeps bringing up doesn’t appear to be working.

It’s worrying heading into the second half of the season that United still haven’t gotten out of first gear. By this point, the squad should pick itself – but we’re far from it.

The plethora of injuries Ten Hag has been hit with hasn’t helped, but particularly in attack as of late, he’s had all his options at his disposal.

United need to break their goal drought against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, otherwise, it’s going to be a seriously miserable Christmas at Old Trafford.
