Alan Shearer drops Man Utd vs Sunderland prediction as Ruben Amorim told ‘surprise’ admission for Old Trafford match

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has now revealed where he stands on the upcoming contest between Manchester United and Sunderland at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will return to action on Saturday afternoon for their first match of October and their final one ahead of the start of the international break.

Manchester United will host Sunderland at Old Trafford on the weekend and all eyes are on the under-pressure Ruben Amorim after his side’s poor start to the 2025-26 season.

Ruben Amorim found himself under intense scrutiny again after United’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium last Saturday.

Brentford hosted United for their previous Premier League outing last week and the Bees were 2-0 up in the opening 20 minutes after Igor Thiago’s stunning brace.

Benjamin Sesko opened his goalscoring account for United, but the Bees sealed all three points in the second half after Mathias Jensen netted his side’s third of the tie.

Alan Shearer’s Premier League prediction for Man Utd vs Sunderland at Old Trafford says it all

Manchester United are currently 14th in the Premier League table in the 2025-26 season ahead of hosting fifth-place Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils have lost three of their opening six Premier League matches under United manager Ruben Amorim and have only picked up two league wins so far.

Sunderland, on the other hand, are four points clear of United in the Premier League table and the Black Cats have only lost once in the league since their promotion.

Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Alan Shearer has praised Newcastle’s rivals for their “incredible” showing in the 2025-26 Premier League season so far.

However, the Newcastle legend has backed United to come out on top at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, despite having “no confidence” in the Red Devils.

“Sunderland had a great result last weekend and have made an incredible start to the season,” Shearer said.

“I have no confidence at all in Manchester United, but I do think they’ll beat Sunderland.”

Alan Shearer’s warning to Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim about the Premier League clash vs Sunderland

Despite backing United to walk away with all three Premier League points, Shearer has warned that he could equally see Sunderland snatching a result at Old Trafford.

“It also wouldn’t surprise me if Sunderland get something and if they do, you’d have to worry for Ruben Amorim,” he continued.

Shearer added: “Without having any belief whatsoever, I’m just going to say home win.”

United and Sunderland’s Premier League clash is slated for a 3pm kick-off time in the UK at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
