Adrien Rabiot said Cristiano Ronaldo was key reason he signed for Juventus
Manchester United are pushing for a deal to sign Adrien Rabiot as a surprise, and underwhelming, midfield solution.
The Guardian report a deal is agreed at £15 million, with the Frenchman potentially becoming United’s fourth summer signing.
If the deal does go through, Rabiot would be reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo, a player he spent two seasons alongside at Juventus.
Playing with Ronaldo at Old Trafford is likely to be a big attraction to the Frenchman. He admitted it was when he signed for Juventus in 2019.
Cristiano Ronaldo was key reason he signed for Juventus
After leaving PSG for Juventus in 2019, Rabiot admitted the opportunity to play alongside Ronaldo was part of his reason for signing with the Italian club.
Quoted by Fotmob: “I had the chance to grow up playing with top players, which helped me a lot. Ronaldo is a great champion.
“The chance to play with him definitely had a bearing on my decision.”
Now after Ronaldo left Juventus for Manchester United in 2021, Rabiot could follow him to Old Trafford.
After signing with Juventus, Rabiot hailed for Ronaldo for helping him settle and talked up their connection.
He was quoted by Bleacher Report: “I played a lot this summer, because I needed to adapt to the team. I’m managing to create an excellent affinity with Cristiano Ronaldo, because he also plays on the left. Training with him allows me to improve myself a lot and his presence is very good for the group.”
Ronaldo may appreciate seeing a familiar face pitch up at Old Trafford, one who can help out the team’s underperforming midfield.
Rabiot is not a progressive, exciting signing, but at £15 million he is a pragmatic one, a player who is used to playing for top teams in high-pressure environments. The pressure is truly on at Manchester United right now after an opening day defeat.
