Adam Lawrence has praised Michael Carrick for his understanding of Manchester United’s deep ties to academy football.

Everything is lining up for Manchester United to make Michael Carrick the next permanent head coach this summer.

Carrick has the support of players and also the fanbase for the way he managed to turn this season into a success after Ruben Amorim’s failures.

But Carrick has also impressed Ineos off the pitch, with his commitment to representing the club’s values a big positive. This factor has also caught Adam Lawrence’s eye.

Michael Carrick understands how important the academy is to Manchester United

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lawrence discussed Carrick, praising his treatment of the academy during his interim spell in charge of the club.

“Michael [Carrick] has been really, really supportive, and he understands in terms of the marquee games for the Academy and the ones that he [Lacey] and the club feel are really, really good to be involved in.

“They would obviously support [that] but obviously not at the expense of what the first team is doing or their programme.

“But Michael has already said to me last week, I had a short conversation just around the programme next week for the 21s and the games and the opportunities, and basically the first team supporting that.

“So that message coming from him is obviously really good.”

Carrick’s commitment to the academy has seen him attend as many youth team matches as possible over the past few months, which is a change from the previous two managers, who didn’t show this interest.

Michael Carrick has all the traits of building a Manchester United dynasty

While finding a repeat of Sir Alex Ferguson is ultimately impossible, Manchester United will want the next permanent head coach to stay longer than the two and a half years that is currently the trend.

So in Carrick, the ground works are currently being laid for this to be the case, as he is showing a desire to integrate the academy, planning beyond just his current contract.

Carrick is the frontrunner right now when considering the lack of options elsewhere this summer.

Additionally, Carrick is very close to obtaining Champions League football, which should be enough to warrant getting the job permanently, as it was his original target.

Carrick could lead United into a new dynasty, or at the very least, he is setting the groundwork for this by restoring the academy to first-team link. Next season, with more games, we assume he will put even more trust in the youngsters.
