A worrying statistic has emerged about Manchester United’s goals conceded in the six-yard box which definitely doesn’t paint David De Gea in the best light.
De Gea has had a strange season. He’s had many games where he’s been United’s saviour, but in contrast, has often been one of Erik ten Hag‘s biggest weaknesses.
He currently sits top of the clean sheets list in the Premier League, meaning he’s on for the Golden Glove. This seems strange considering the sheer amount of goals United have leaked.
Speaking of goals leaked, let’s take a look at the worrying statistic. Check it out below.

United have conceded 16 goals in the six-yard box this season
Heung Min Son’s equaliser for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last Thursday was the 16th goal United have conceded in the six-yard box this season.
This comes from Twitter user TheMoz, who obtained the data from Understat.
He then goes on to list some of the other Premier League side’s totals. These are as follows;
- Arsenal: 7
- Manchester City: 7
- Newcastle: 8
- Tottenham: 9
- Aston Villa: 9
- Liverpool: 5
- Brighton: 6
- Brentford: 9
- Southampton: 9
- Nottingham Forest: 10
- Bournemouth: 19
It’s worrying to see a lot of United’s major competitors with significantly less.

What does this say about David De Gea?
This paints a bad picture of David De Gea as it says a lot about being unable to command his area.
A lot of the league’s best keepers in Ederson, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale all are known to dominate the space in front of them. De Gea is undeniably a world-class shot-stopper, but this appears to be something he’ll never get the hang of.
A team of United’s stature can’t keep affording to leak this many goals in these sorts of positions. Ten Hag may be forced to look at other goalkeeping options in the summer.
