Eight years on, David de Gea may finally be set to complete his ‘dream move’ to Real Madrid, following news of a Thibaut Courtois injury.

David de Gea left Manchester United this summer after the club released him after 11 long years at the club. He nearly wasn’t there for all that time though. Back in 2018 de Gea was on the verge of his ‘dream move‘ to Real Madrid.

However, due to a dodgy fax machine… the deal fell through! He then decided he’d like to stay at United for good and was the first-choice keeper up until this summer, when Erik ten Hag decided to bring in Andre Onana.

Now, 8 years down the line, thanks to an injury the move may finally be able to materialise.

David De Gea to finally land Madrid move?

According to a report from Football Espana – David De Gea is on the shortlist of players to come in to replace Thibaut Courtois, following news that he’ll be injured for the majority of the season.

TalkSport have also recently reported that he is in ‘advanced’ talks with the club, in what is a remarkably quick turnaround.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Courtois had broken his ACL.

“After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he’s been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days”.

This means Real Madrid will need to get a replacement keeper in… and fast. Joining Dave on the shortlist, is Kepa Arrizabalaga, Yassine Bounou, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Dominik Livakovic.

De Gea makes sense for Madrid

We can’t help but think De Gea makes the most sense for Los Galacticos.

Carlo Ancelotti will be able to get the shot-stopper on a free and he’ll more than likely be willing to get everything sorted very quickly, due to the fact he’s currently without a club.

It’s no dispute that Dave has always fancied Madrid as a footballing destination. Remarkably in 2023 – his wish could finally come true.
