41-goal striker is ‘exactly what Manchester United need’, says pundit

Manchester United have been urged to push and try and secure a deal for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Renowned commentator Ian Darke told ESPNFC‘s ‘dream transfer’ segment that Harry Kane to Manchester United is the Premier League transfer he most wanted to see.

Darke explained: “He’s exactly what United need. 30 Premier League goals last season, he’s Tottenham’s record scorer of all time, he’s England’s record scorer of all time, he’s guaranteed goals.

He went on to add that he believes a move to Manchester United is the right move for Harry Kane’s career.

Manchester United striker need

Harry Kane scored 41 goals for club and country in all competitions last season, including a recent brace for England at Old Trafford.

Darke added: “That would make a huge difference to United if they can get the deal done. It’s a massive if, because United haven’t been good at getting deals done.

“He could leave Tottenham with his head held high. They are going to drive the hardest bargain. Is it the right move for him, I think yes it is.”

Fellow pundit, Craig Burley, formerly of Chelsea and Tottenham, also urged Manchester United to be ‘serious’ and put in a major offer for Harry Kane, expressing the club’s desperate need for a goalscorer.

He said: ‘If this club is serious they are going to put a bid in for Kane. You can’t expect Rashford to keep doing it. Sancho isn’t going to bail you out much, Antony isn’t going to bail you out much.

“We sat here last year watching Wout Weghorst, talk about a fish out of water. That was the hand Ten Hag was dealt.”

Manchester United have not replaced Cristiano Ronaldo, who himself was another short-term sticking plaster solution for the striker position.

Ever since Romelu Lukaku was sold in 2019, United have turned to short-term fixes and this just can’t continue.

In the meantime, Anthony Martial has proven to be more and more unreliable to the point where he is pretty much a non-option.

Kane to Manchester United latest

Manchester United have backed away from a deal for Harry Kane, due to Tottenham’s resistance to selling.

A report via The Sun last week claimed Manchester United have told Kane to submit a transfer request if he wants to move to the club.

The Mail report Manchester United see £80 million as a sweet spot in terms of price, for a player who has just one year remaining on his contract. However, there is currently no sign Tottenham are prepared to seel for this kind of figure.
