There was a familiar name on the bench for the Manchester United under-21 side at Old Trafford on Friday night.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper prospect Jacob Carney was among the substitutes.
Carney, 22, was released by Sunderland earlier this summer and is still a free agent.
The MEN report Carney is on trial at Carrington and add that he has ‘impressed’ so far upon his return.

Why interest in Jacob Carney
Jacob Carney quit United two years ago to sign with Sunderland in the hope of first team opportunities, which did not arise.
He was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s first team training camp in February 2020 which flew to Portugal shortly after Bruno Fernandes‘ arrival.
Carney had a loan spell in Northern Ireland with Portadown where he impressed, getting a taste for first team football.
MORE UNITED STORIES
Upon arriving at Sunderland, sporting director Kristjaan Speakman told the club website: “He is a technically-gifted goalkeeper and we believe that with the right development programme across our football operation, including exposure to the first-team environment, he has the potential to have a really successful career.”
Opportunities didn’t open up for Carney at the Black Cats and he is now looking for a career reset.
The goalkeeper can provide extra depth at the club after Matej Kovar, Nathan Bishop and Ondrej Mastny all left the club.
United are yet to make a decision over Carney, but it sounds like he has a shot of securing a deal.
Elyh Harrison impresses in under-21 defeat
Manchester United suffered defeat at home to Leeds at under-21 level on Friday night, with Charlie McNeill scoring a consolation.
It was a game where United dominated after a poor start, with goalkeeper Elyh Harrison keeping the score down with a penalty save.
Radek Vitek was with the first team squad for the Tottenham game. It is possible he heads out on loan. If he does, then it may open the door for Carney to come in.
