Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper says striker Taiwo Awoniyi will be out for “months”, meaning he will miss the clash against Manchester United next month.
The Nottingham Forest striker has established himself as a key man for Steve Cooper’s side this season. The Nigerian has four goals in 10 Premier League appearances and is a real handful for defences.
The former Liverpool forward signed for Forest back in 2022 for £17.5m, but this season has been the real cementation of a deserved spot in the first-team squad.
However, he’ll be out for some time, as the Reds boss Cooper confirmed in his press conference.
Steve Cooper confirms Taiwo Awoniyi injury
“We’ll definitely see him again this season, but it’s groin surgery so it will take a little while,” said Cooper in his press conference on the 23rd of November 2023.
“It’s bad news on Taiwo, he’s had to have surgery and he is going to be out for months,” he added.
“We’ll support him and try to get him back as quick and as fit as he can be, but it’s a really unfortunate situation and a blow for him.
“He’s become an important player for us with the goals he’s scored. He’s such a good guy and a good professional who is desperate to do well, so to get an injury like this is harsh on him.
“We’ve got to support him through the process of coming back stronger.”
Taiwo Awoniyi will miss the Manchester United clash
Manchester United end the calendar year of 2023 with a trip to The City Ground on the 30th of December – a fixture that Awoniyi is now set to miss.
This will be a big loss for Nottingham Forest. The Nigerian is their outlet up front and certainly posed problems for Erik ten Hag‘s side when the Tricky Trees visited Old Trafford – scoring the game-opening goal.
