Manchester United’s need for a summer clear out was highlighted by a Europa League defeat against Sevilla.
United lost 5-2 on aggregate after a 3-0 away defeat. It was yet another away loss for Erik ten Hag’s side, in a season plagued by them.
It was the second one-sided defeat United have suffered this month following the loss to Newcastle. Any time the team face a hostile atmosphere, the team seem to fold.
This defeat happening so late in the season has intensified the need to sell or ditch players who are not up to scratch. The Guardian report as many as 15 could go… but there’s actually a 16th.

There is a real mix of names in this list. While is uncertain if Jadon Sancho will be sold, it does say that the £73 million star’s future is uncertain.
The winger has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford and was hooked at half-time against Sevilla.
Anthony Martial looks to have no future at the club amid his injury problems, while there is a need for an upgrade at centre-back particularly with Harry Maguire.
Fred and Scott McTominay are also surplus to requirements. Several of the names listed are on loan, including promising youngster Hannibal Mejbri.
Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are out of contract and certainly will not be retained.
What about David de Gea?
Not included among the 15 named by The Guardian is David de Gea. The report states he could yet sign a new contract. However, we are dubious on that and suggest he is actually the 16th player who merits being on this list.
De Gea’s future appears even more uncertain than Jadon Sancho’s in our opinion. His deal is up this June.
The Telegraph report: “Uncertainty also surrounds the long-term future of De Gea, who endured a shocking night against Sevilla and was at fault for an appalling third goal.”
The newspaper also add that: “United cannot realistically offload 15 players in one summer but Ten Hag knows it is important the club do not drag their heels.”
There are also uncertainties long-term over Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot. Both could be under threat if United sign another right-back, and Dalot’s contract expires in 2024.
On loan players Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer also face unclear futures.
