Manchester United’s creative players provided the spark for a hard fought victory over Wolves at Old Trafford.
Wolves attempted to resist United, with debutant goalkeeper Dan Bentley putting in an inspired performance.
Anthony Martial scored the opening goal, playing 69 minutes before being replaced with Wout Weghorst. Alejandro Garnacho scored the second in injury time.
It was a win Manchester United deserved, through sheer persistence, while Wolves offered nothing from an attacking perspective.

Manchester United’s creative stars produce
If you create enough goalscoring chances, usually you will win the game. This proved true for Manchester United against Wolves, although it wasn’t easy.
United’s three most creative players were lively throughout. They certainly delivered their end of the bargain.
- Bruno Fernandes: 5 chances created
- Antony: 3 chances created
- Jadon Sancho: 3 chances created
Anthony Martial did his job and scored after an Antony assist, but you can’t help but wonder that with a world class striker, what the scoreline could have been.
MORE UNITED STORIES
Erik ten Hag said ahead of the match that players want to sign for Manchester United this summer after seeing the direction his team is moving in.
He was quoted by the club website: “There were a lot of reservations when I spoke last year with players, [but] now many players see the project that is going on.
“The dynamic and the ambition in this project, and especially the quality. They are really keen to come.”
Any top class striker will recognise they could score a hatful in this team. Bruno Fernandes has created more chances than any player in the Premier League.
He got his assist at the end of the game, his 16th in all competitions this season. With a prolific striker in the side, his numbers could be even higher.
