Erik ten Hag could have the solution to a huge problem right under his nose at Old Trafford in Mason Mount.

Manchester United have had a horrid start to the season both on and off the field.

Most troubling however has been the loss of two wingers in Antony and Jadon Sancho for what is currently an indefinite time period.

This leaves Facundo Pellistri the only out-and-out right winger in the squad as Amad Diallo remains injured.

Erik ten Hag therefore is faced with a troubling issue in attack. Pellistri while ready can’t be expected to hold all that pressure on his own, while Bruno Fernandes isn’t effective there.

But one man who is returning from injury is, and could be the ideal solution on the right.

Mason Mount could be Ten Hag’s saviour

Despite being signed in the summer for £55 million and on a reported £250k per week, it is easy to forget about Mason Mount given he has been injured around a month.

The 24-year-old in his brief time playing this season however didn’t look up to scratch.

However with a midfield role probably less likely now given the arrival of Sofyan Amrabat, Mount could have to adapt.

This adaptation could and maybe should see him settle into the currently vacant right-wing slot.

This position isn’t one which is unfamiliar to Mount as he played here multiple times before, with the stats indicating he enjoys the role. Five goals and five assists in 13 games played on the right is a brilliant return.

This argument sees Mount involved in 0.77 goals per game when played here, a compelling case to play him there.

Why Mason on the right works

Mason Mount is a player who relies heavily on link-ups, which is exactly what he will get on the right hand side.

Think of the countless occasions we have watched Antony in a position down the right which a simple exchange could see him able to whip in a wonderful cross but can’t due to having no right foot.

Mount does, and can also use his left meaning he will be so dangerous for the full-back marking him, especially when linking up with Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund who will drift out wide.

This makes us a far better side then with Antony in that position and we wouldn’t be surprised to see Mount establish himself there immediately with a strong display against Burnley.
