Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is not a certainty to line up against Manchester United.

La Liga side Sevilla have a strong record against Manchester United, winning the most recent meeting in 2020 in the Europa League semi final.

The star of the show that night was their goalkeeper, Yassine ‘Bono’ Bounou.

A succession of saves blocked Manchester United’s attackers after an early penalty, and Sevilla eventually scored a late winner.

Bounou injury update

Yassine Bounou starred at the World Cup for Morocco on their way to the semi-finals, once again getting the better of Bruno Fernandes.

An injury has held up his playing time recently. He missed the recent international break and has not played a game since March 19.

He has been named in Sevilla’s travelling squad, which also includes United loanee Alex Telles.

Asked about Bounou possibly playing, Sevilla manager Jose Luis Mendilibar was careful not to give anything away.

He told ABC Sevilla: “The 22 that have come have the same chance to play and Bono is among those 22.”

Serbia international Marko Dmitrovic has been standing in for the Moroccan in recent matches. He has been at Sevilla since 2021.

It’s probable Bounou will feature, having made the trip, but not certain.

The Mirror reported a year ago that Bounou was on Manchester United’s list of possible David de Gea alternatives.

If he does play, the 32-year-old will be keen to give a good account of himself.
