Erik ten Hag has revealed what he told the Manchester United players in the dressing room following their defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

In the first-ever all-Manchester FA Cup final, it was unfortunately the blue side that emerged victorious. Two goals from Ilkay Gundogan were enough to cancel out a Bruno Fernandes equalising penalty to give the Cityzens the victory at Wembley.

It was a very disappointing day for United fans all around the globe. The City victory not only means they have bragging right over the FA Cup, but they also could go on to do the elusive treble if they beat Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

Erik ten Hag was also bitterly disappointed following the fixture. He revealed that the mood in the dressing room was also very depressing.

Ten Hag to Manchester United players after FA Cup final defeat

As reported by the MEN, Erik ten Hag has told his players he was proud of their efforts in the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

In a post-match interview with the BBC, ten Hag spoke about the emotions he and the players were going through after the bitter loss.

“We are broken, disappointed of course, but I said I am proud of my team,” he told the BBC. “We did very well, we conceded two soft goals but we were in the game.

“There was a great spirit and very good organisation. They were tough goals, they were so soft and avoidable. When you play against City and you don’t concede almost nothing from open play it is a big credit for the team but if you concede goals like this it is disappointing.

“This team showed resilience, character and personality. We know we have a way to go but this will make us better. It was a test for us, we didn’t succeed but we can take a lot of positives into next season.”

Described perfectly by Erik. It wasn’t the result any United fan wanted, but the positives we can take out of this season are monumental.

Let’s hope for a cracking transfer window and then we plough on for the 2023/24 campaign.
