Wes Brown says one Man Utd star ‘does everything right’, names three best performers vs Plzen

Manchester United showed character to battle back from behind in order to secure a first win away from home in Europe since 2023.

It looked like another evening to forget in Europe for the Red Devils in the opening 60 minutes.

But in the 62nd minute, Rasmus Hojlund stepped up to score from close range and give Manchester United a much-needed boost.

Ruben Amorim’s substitutions worked a treat, and in the 88th minute, the 21-year-old Dane grabbed his second of the match, to hand United a 2-1 win.

Hojlund broke a Wayne Rooney record in the process, as United made it three wins in the Europa League on the bounce – boding well for automatic last-16 progression.

After the game, Wes Brown praised the players he felt were standout performers against Plzen.

Noussair Mazraoui praised by Wes Brown

Speaking after the pivotal win in the Czech Republic, on MUTV, former United defender Wes Brown had praise for three players in particular.

Among those lauded was defender Noussair Mazraoui who was once again solid in central defence.

“Mazraoui, you don’t really notice him but he does everything right, he doesn’t give his man much time at all and that’s what you want from a defender.”

Mazraoui won four of four tackles (best in team) and five duels against Plzen, which backs up Brown’s point.

Continuing, Brown then praised the two attacking players who kick-started the comeback.

“Amad definitely”, Brown added when asked who had been impressive. “But listen, Hojlund was in the right spot and that’s what you want from your striker, I think he’s hungry for goals and that’s what he got today.”

Mazraoui shines for Manchester United… Again

It is a testament to Mazraoui’s incredible versatility that he has taken to playing as a centre-back like a duck takes to water.

Mazraoui was United’s player of the month for November, after taking up the new role under Amorim on the right side of the back three.

Seen widely as the best signing United have made in years, Ineos also view Mazraoui among the six unsellable players, currently at the club.

It is almost not even worth mentioning that Mazraoui was impressive, given it happens every single match. However, he deserves his flowers and he almost certainly must play against Man City.
