United turned in one of their worst performances in years against West Ham, losing 3-1 at the London Stadium.
This is now United’s worst start to a league season in the Premier League era.
The players should feel the heat as much as manager Jose Mourinho, who is now under real pressure for his job.
There are a handful of exceptions. Here are three players who don’t really deserve to be blamed for the loss.
Scott McTominay
The young Scot did not have a great game, but he was not put in a position to succeed. This was his first start of the season, away at an in form side.
It made Mourinho’s decision not to select him in midweek against Derby even more peculiar, to then start him here.
Was it really any surprise that he failed to make an impact?
Luke Shaw
Shaw’s positioning still needs work, but he has made major improvements this season.
He was one of the few players who didn’t let their heads drop, and he kept pushing forward.
His delivery from a corner let to United’s only goal. While others should lose their places, Shaw must keep his.
Marcus Rashford
Rashford should have started this game up front, with Romelu Lukaku once again disappointing.
After coming off the bench Rashford scored United’s goal, and showed why he needs more opportunities.
To criticise him for the loss would be wrong, with United 2-0 down at the time he was introduced.
