Manchester United defeated Luton Town in the Premier League on Saturday.
It was a Victor Lindelof second-half strike which gave the Red Devils the victory, in what was a pretty lacklustre affair.
Nevertheless, the three points are definitely what matters. Erik ten Hag‘s side now sit sixth in the table.
One player who was featured again was Scott McTominay. He achieved something in the first 45 minutes which on paper looks borderline impossible.

Scott McTominay’s borderline impossible first-half stat vs Luton Town
According to FOTMOB, in the first half of the fixture against Luton Town, McTominay only registered six completed passes in the first half – despite Manchester United having 76% possession.
He did try and make seven passes, but one was incomplete.
This meant that the Scotsman made a total of one completed pass every seven and a half minutes against the Hatters.
This genuinely seems like an impossible statistic, but it happened. Looking back at the first half, the 26-year-old was nowhere to be seen in attacking phases.
Scott McTominay made up for it in his second-half stint vs Luton Town
His second-half performance more than made up for it. He finished the game with some impressive stats, considering his little to no involvement in the first 45.
- 90 minutes played
- 36/45 passes completed
- 7 duels won
- 0 times dispossessed
- 7.6 overall rating
The Manchester United academy graduate made 30 more successful passes than he did in the opening 45. That’s a whopping five times as many.
It’s still not great, let’s be honest, for a midfielder of Manchester United in a game against serious relegation candidates – but he did somewhat save his blushes after a more than absent half of football.
McTominay has been a vital player for Ten Hag over the past couple of weeks and has proven himself worthy of wearing the red shirt at Old Trafford once again. Fair play to him.
