Rio Ferdinand has criticised Manchester United for the manner in which they capitulated against FC Copenhagen at Parken.
Erik ten Hag’s side had a comfortable two-goal lead going into half-time but a Marcus Rashford red card late on in the encounter swung the tie in Copenhagen’s favour.
Manchester United went in at half-time with the scores level and despite retaking the lead through a Bruno Fernandes penalty, the Red Devils suffered an embarrassing 4-3 defeat with many talking points.
It’s not the first time in their Champions League group that the Red Devils have suffered a defeat after being ahead, their mentality has to be questionned.

Ferdinand on lack of leaders
Speaking on TNT Sports after the game, Rio Ferdinand, the former United defender, was frustrated with the lack of leaders in the group following the manner of defeat in Denmark.
“Back again into crisis mode, I think that’s the way it is, it’s a rollercoaster at Man United now,” Ferdinand said with considerable frustration in his voice.
“I think there’s no consistency, I was watching that game and I was screaming, 2-0 up, Rasmus Hojlund, thinking, “Wow, found a hero”. And then all of a sudden the wheels just fall off, they capitulate.
“That just signals to me a lack of character at the moment. There’s not enough characters in there to pull the team through when they’re in a situation where there’s a bit of adversity, or they’re under a bit of duress.”
Ferdinand is right
Despite some of the refereeing decisions going against United, the manner in which they conceded the third and fourth goals, in particular, will surely frustrate Ten Hag.
Trying to be fancy with the ball when playing out from the back led to the team conceding the final goal which made the score 4-3 and the current team just doesn’t have that calming influence on the pitch to settle things down.
Fernandes was good in Denmark but the question remains is he good enough to be a captain at United?
