Four reasons to be positive after Manchester United’s 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich

Manchester United lost game number three on the bounce against Bayern Munich on Wednesday but despite this, there are reasons to be positive.

On a night which saw the attack look stagnant for the majority and the defence look shaky along with Andre Onana, some bright sparks have us remaining positive.

Bayern Munich opened the scoring through Leroy Sane thanks to a big mistake from Andre Onana, which was quickly followed by Serge Gnabry adding a second.

Following half-time Rasmus Hojlund struck back only for a controversial penalty call to go against United minutes later with Harry Kane converting.

Casemiro put us within one to blow the game open, but then the game was then put beyond doubt by Mathys Tel. Casemiro then added his second but it was too little too late resulting in a 4-3 loss.

Here are the four positives we have taken from this game…

Rasmus Hojlund grabs his first goal

On a disappointing evening not due to the result but performance, Rasmus Hojlund opened his Manchester United account.

A huge relief for him no doubt as it silences his doubters and will act as a massive boost of confidence going forward.

The passion he showed after scoring too was a huge positive and had fans believing a comeback was on. A solid start from Hojlund continues.

Sergio Reguilon proves his worth

Upon Luke Shaw’s injury, concern was high over how Manchester United would fill the gap left.

But a deadline day arrival of Sergio Reguilon was completed to fill the gap, a move which was laughed at initially is now looking like a masterstroke.

Reguilon was the best player on the pitch for United and regularly beat Konrad Laimer to cross the ball into the box. If he continues like this, we wouldn’t rule out a permanent move.

Anthony Martial impressive

Anthony Martial came on for Hojlund in the 81st minute and looked to have rolled back the years with excellent dribbling and link-up play.

Martial assisted Casemiro’s first goal and played a role in helping United gain an attacking foothold in the game.

When fit and firing Martial can be incredible, it is a shame we can’t rely on him though as if we could we would have a brilliant striker duo.

Injuries easing up

The biggest positive of all is the fact we gave Bayern Munich a really good game despite having 11 first team players out injured or absent for other reasons.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo, Sofyan Amrabat, Mason Mount, Antony, Jadon Sancho are all missing.

With four of these names due for an imminent return as they ramp up training, there are plenty of reasons to feel positive ahead of the game on Saturday night against Burnley.
