Rasmus Hojlund will get the plaudits, but one unsung Man Utd man was simply impeccable vs Luton

Manchester United defeat Luton Town in the Premier League, but they certainly made it hard work for themselves.

Two goals from Rasmus Hojlund in the first 10 minutes were ultimately the difference on the day. Luton did pull one back through Carlton Morris, but Manchester United managed to hold on to get all three points.

There were a few good performers on the day, but naturally, the Danish forward will take the plaudits. His two goals mean he is now the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six consecutive matches.

A great achievement, however, we think it was a different first-team squad member who deserves a lot of credit for the victory.

Raphael Varane was impeccable vs Luton Town

Raphael Varane arguably had his best game in a United shirt this season against Luton. He was integral to the victory, but won’t get the credit he deserves.

The Frenchman was a colossus throughout. He made numerous vital blocks and was one of the calmest heads on the pitch.

One moment that went very unnoticed was a block from a Luton shot in the second half, which without his intervention, and some help from Bruno Fernandes, was destined for Andre Onana‘s goal.

He was back to his very best, which is reflected in his stats below.

Raphael Varane showed the veterans how it’s done

In a fixture which needed a composed figure from an older squad member Varane rose above the rest. Harry Maguire and Casemiro were yanked off at half-time due to the fact they both lost composure at moments and obtained yellow cards.

Varane was cool, composed and collected throughout – and particularly in the second half with Jonny Evans, was impeccable.

He’s still an integral part of this squad, and United are lucky to have him.
