The 2025/26 Premier League season is finally here, and Manchester United get the campaign underway with a home clash against Arsenal.

Old Trafford is set to host the biggest fixture of game week one as Manchester United take on last season’s runners-up Arsenal.

Both teams strengthened in attack over the summer and will hope their signings will hit the ground running in their new surroundings.

United go into the first game of the campaign after an unbeaten run of pre-season friendlies.

The only absentees for Ruben Amorim are Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui.

But how will Amorim’s starting line-up for United look?

How Manchester United could line-up against Arsenal

United are looking to bounce back after a turbulent 2024/25 season.

There is excitement about the new signings, and United fans are hopeful of seeing several debutants in action on Sunday.

So, with kick-off on the horizon, how will United line-up against the Gunners?

Goalkeeper – Andre Onana

Although it presents a risk starting Andre Onana against Arsenal, after the goalkeeper missed the entirety of pre-season with a hamstring injury, there is no denying that he is a significant upgrade on Altay Bayindir.

Onana struggled for form in his first two seasons at Old Trafford, but Amorim is set to keep his faith in the Cameroon international.

Defence – Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven

Perhaps the biggest selection headache Amorim faces is whether to start Harry Maguire or Matthijs de Ligt at the heart of his back three.

Leny Yoro will be one of the first names on the teamsheet after an impressive pre-season. The same could be said for Ayden Heaven, so long as he is fully recovered from the knock he picked up against Fiorentina last weekend. Amorim can call upon Luke Shaw if Heaven isn’t fully match fit.

Midfield – Amad, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Partrick Dorgu

Pre-season suggests Amad has earned the right wing-back role, but Diogo Dalot may have something to say about that throughout the campaign. Patrick Dorgu will be looking to continue the form he showed during the summer.

In the centre, Casemiro will be tasked with doing the dirty work to allow Bruno Fernandes freedom to attack. It may be telling if Manuel Ugarte gets overlooked again.

Attack – Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko

United revamped their attack during the summer following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Cunha and Mbeumo will take up the no.10 roles in Amorim’s system, while Sesko will lead the line as a centre-forward.

Sesko missed pre-season, but seeing his name in the starting XI will give everyone at Old Trafford a much-needed boost.
