Predicted Manchester United line-up for FA Cup clash vs Wigan

Add as preferred source on Google

Manchester United will take on Wigan Athletic on Monday night as this season’s FA Cup journey begins at the DW Stadium.

The FA Cup is back and Manchester United have been handed a favourable draw, away from home against League One opposition.

It sees United take on Wigan for the first time since a 4-0 win by United in the same competition back in 2017.

The game also gives Erik ten Hag a chance to try out some different players and rotate slightly ahead of Spurs next Sunday.

So with all that in mind, here is our predicted line-up for United to face Wigan on Monday in the FA Cup.

Manchester United predicted XI vs Wigan

With United facing a League One side, it’s fair to assume Ten Hag will field a rotated side. But due to the fact this is one of just two United games this month, it may not be as heavily rotated as previously thought.

One position that we think will change though is in goal with Andre Onana dropping out despite him staying to face Spurs next Sunday before heading to AFCON.

Altay Bayindir should get his first start in this game as if he doesn’t, what was the point in signing him?

Moving into the defence, we expect an unchanged quartet with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot at right and left back respectively.

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane should both retain their places in the team with Willy Kambwala an option from the bench – although don’t rule out him starting.

In midfield, it’s probable Ten Hag rotates but also not too heavily. Dan Gore would be one player possibly in line for his first start of the season, but we see the pivot of Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo being selected.

Ahead of this pairing, Bruno Fernandes gets himself a long overdue rest, with Hannibal Mejbri potentially heading on loan to Sevilla, Scott McTominay should play in the 10.

On the flanks, an incredibly exciting duo could be in line to start as Amad Diallo has earned a start here thanks to his cameo against Nottingham Forest with Alejandro Garnacho on the left.

Up-front the returning Rasmus Hojlund will be brimming with confidence after his finish against Aston Villa and hoping to add to his domestic goalscoring tally.
