Player Ratings and Goal Videos: West Brom 1-2 Man Utd

Player ratings and highlights from Man Utd’s 2-1 win at West Brom.
De Gea – 7 – Kept steady despite a late barrage of pressure
Valencia – 6 – Was ok before being forced off with an injury. Will be a big loss.
Smalling – 6 – Defended well for most of the game but as West Brom gained in confidence and momentum, he looked a little shaky.
Jones – 6 – Positioning a little off. After all this time you would think Smalling and Jones would be familiar enough with their respective roles in the centre of defence but they consistently look like strangers.
Young – 6 – Looked okay linking up on United’s left hand side but it was the sort of performance that will only strengthen the call for Luke Shaw to play there as first choice.
Matic – 8 – After looking tired in recent weeks, the Serb was back to his best today. His tenacity in the first half instigated the moves for both goals.
Herrera – 5 – Another afternoon to forget for Herrera. His confidence is low but maybe there’s a more simple reason for his poor form. Perhaps, with the undeniable upgrade United have seen in their engine room with Matic and Pogba, Herrera’s skill-set is incompatible. He certainly looks out of place at the moment.
Mata – 7 – Another fine outing for the former Chelsea man who is doing his own chances of a more regular run no harm.
Lingard – 8 – Continues to answer the questions about his selection.
Rashford – 6 – Frustrating afternoon for the youngster who had a couple of flashpoint.
Lukaku – 6 – Took his goal well but still looks out of sorts, as is apparent by the way he resembles the spearhead of a system rather than a part of it as he was in the early weeks of the season.
Subs :
Rojo – 6 – Most notable contribution was the nonsensical furore before he came on. Substitutes are supposed to be ready to play, especially in the second half.
Martial and McTominay – Not long enough to fairly rank.
