Manchester United played out a competitive 1-1 draw with Chelsea, with neither side especially happy with a point.
It took a very good goal for Chelsea to breach Manchester United’s defence, with Moises Caicedo netting an equaliser from outside the box. United had only been in front for four minutes when Chelsea equalised.
Our star man was Noussair Mazraoui, the highest performing player in our ratings from the match.
Mazraoui was fully deserving of the praise, yet there is another player who we feel warrants some extra attention, the player he signed alongside.

Matthijs de Ligt impresses
Manchester United centre-back Matthijs de Ligt was the fall-guy a week ago when a penalty was awarded against him in stoppage time against West Ham.
Against Chelsea, De Ligt retained his place in the starting line-up and put in a very solid performance in the 1-1 draw.
De Ligt was tested early when Cole Palmer ran at him inside the box. Even though he was off-balance, the Dutchman was careful not to over commit, and managed to block his effort.
Through the game De Ligt was sharp and tried to close Palmer down whenever he got into a shooting position.
Striker Nicolas Jackson barely got a look-in, with the De Ligt and Martinez partnership showing positive signs, before the looming switch to a back three.
Here is a look at Matthijs de Ligt’s key numbers from the fixture…
- Passing Accuracy: 95 per cent
- Touches: 46
- Blocks: 2
- Interceptions: 1
De Ligt will play key role under Amorim
Matthijs de Ligt is still adjusting to the Premier League after his summer switch from Bayern Munich, and making good progress.
Despite this, De Ligt has vast experience, and he will have a key role to play under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim likes his sides to play a 3-4-3 formation, and this will mean regular playing time for De Ligt even when Leny Yoro returns from injury.
De Ligt has made 14 appearances for United so far, 10 games as a starter. His match against Chelsea was unfortunate not to end with a clean sheet.
