MUTV pundits praise what Altay Bayindir did vs Chelsea, connection with new signing already noted

While we hoped the home game against Chelsea would see Senne Lammens dropped in for a debut, Altay Bayindir played his role in Manchester United’s win.

Altay Bayindir’s days as Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper are clearly limited by the deadline day signing of Senne Lammens.

And the question remains whether he is on a short leash, or whether Ruben Amorim will persist with Altay Bayindir for weeks or even months before bringing the new signing in for his debut.

Bayindir was rooted to the spot as Nathaniel Chalobah scored a consolation header for Chelsea in the second half, but it would be churlish to deny the Turkish star’s role in Manchester United’s 2-1 win.

Altay Bayindir contribution praised

Manchester United’s win turned on Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez being sent off after just five minutes when he brought down Bryan Mbeumo outside the box.

Mbeumo was put through on goal with a classic ‘route one’ move, with a long Altay Bayindir kick, headed on by striker Benjamin Sesko, setting up the chance for Mbeumo.

Bayindir’s direct pass upfield was noted on MUTV’s postgame coverage, with Wes Brown suggesting it was a sequence that United may have been working on in training.

He said: “It was a good start, first of all from the ‘keeper. He knows from training with Sesko for a while now, beautiful flick on for Mbeumo.”

Fellow analyst Luke Chadwick added: “That kind of play can be frowned upon in this day and age, the goalkeeper with the long kick.”

Earlier this season a long ball from Bayindir set Matheus Cunha through on goal against Fulham, with the Brazilian landing a shot on target.

Chadwick added that Sesko deserved credit too, with the passage of play having a major impact on the rest of the game.

“Sesko has done absolutely fantastic, it’s a brilliant flick on, Mbeumo has taken a chance, and that really you could argue has won Manchester United this game, that one passage of play there with the goalkeeper sent off.”

Altay Bayindir clean sheet wait goes on

Altay Bayindir had a quiet first half against a 10 man Chelsea, but when United were reduced to 10, the away side came into the game.

Nathaniel Chalobah’s second half goal denied Bayindir a much-desired clean sheet, with United conceding in all five Premier League games this season.

Bayindir has struggled to keep the ball out of his own net for the past 12 months. The last time he kept a clean sheet was one year ago, when Manchester United beat Barnsley 7-0.
