MUTV pundit says ‘quality’ Man Utd player sent ‘big’ message vs FCSB – Ruben Amorim agrees

Manchester United reached the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday night, with one player showing real quality.

It was a dominant performance from Manchester United in Bucharest.

Ruben Amorim’s side rounded out the tournament with a 2-0 win over FCSB, meaning United are the only club in the tournament to remain unbeaten through the eight games.

The win secured a top-eight finish for United, handing Amorim a bye for the Europa League play-offs. In the round of 16, United will face one of four teams.

A tough test awaits, but after such a terrific performance from multiple United players confidence will be high. In particular, Amorim will be proud of Kobbie Mainoo, who was unplayable at times.

Amorim experimented with Mainoo as a No.10 and it paid off perfectly with the 19-year-old assisting Diogo Dalot’s opener and scoring the second goal himself.

John O’Shea raves about Kobbie Mainoo performance

After the game, MUTV pundits were raving about Mainoo’s performance.

Among these, was former United defender John O’Shea, who explained that Mainoo would have sent a big message to Amorim.

“Especially tonight when I see Kobbie that little bit higher up the pitch, I think that’s a big one for the manager now to kind of almost go ‘right, now I have to get him in the team, I have to keep him in the team higher up the pitch’.

“I think he just makes things happen, it’s that quality in his play. That aggression he has in terms of running forward and he’s a threat.

“He’s a goal threat. Look, he’s a talent so let’s hope he can build on that and build confidence and show that quality we know he has.”

After O’Shea gave Mainoo his flowers, Amorim was also speaking about the youngster and agreed with the Irishman.

Ruben Amorim delighted with Mainoo display

With O’Shea left raving about Mainoo’s man-of-the-match performance, it has been interesting to hear what Amorim thought following the game. Amorim told MUTV that he was a fan of Mainoo in the No.10 role.

“He had more freedom and he was closer to the box. He’s so technical and can change the game there, so I think it’s a good position for him – we will see. But I’m really happy to see Kobbie enjoying the game a little bit more.

“Sometimes he’s always worrying about the recovery, trying to defend, and I know that he is trying. Today I felt Kobbie was enjoying the game more and I am really happy about that.”

Amorim is clearly pleased that Mainoo thrived in the attacking midfield and we would therefore not be shocked if this was also on the cards against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
