Rashford has had a tricky last two seasons but looks sharp and confident so far this summer under Erik Ten Hag.

That was reflected in his message on Twitter after the win against Palace, who beat United in the final game of last season.

It should be noted that Palace were without some of their top players, just like Liverpool were when we beat them earlier this month.

But United can only beat what is in front of them and they needed this time to get used to their new manager’s philosophy, as well as getting fitter.

Rashford is one player who can benefit from that and another is Donny van de Beek, who worked with Ten Hag during their time together at Ajax.

After the game, Rashford sent a message to Van de Beek – who came on as a substitute here – on Twitter.

The Dutchman set up Rashford’s goal, rounding off a composed and clinical team move by handing the England striker an open goal.

United look confident and sharp, and preparation is going as well as it can do for when the serious action starts next month.

It has to be a slight concern for Van de Beek that his old Ajax boss has not yet started him ahead of Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield.

With Christian Eriksen coming in, there is even more competition for places, but Van de Beek looks up for the challenge and is clearly appreciated by Rashford.
