Manchester United fell to a devastating loss in the Premier League as Newcastle United climbed above the Red Devils in the standings with a 2-0 win at St. James Park.

David De Gea – 7
Made an outstanding double save in the opening half to deny Newcastle an early goal and pulled off another stunner to stop the hosts from going 2-0 up. Couldn’t have done much for Joe Willock’s opener or Calum Wilson’s header.
Diogo Dalot – 5
Allan Saint-Maximin tormented Dalot from the first whistle to the last, and the Portuguese defender was lucky that Newcastle had forgot to wear their shooting boots in what was a match to forget for the right-back.
Raphael Varane – 5
Varane will be kicking himself with how the French superstar performed, with Alexander Isak causing the former Real Madrid man multiple problems despite failing to hit the back of the net.
Lisandro Martinez – 6
The only Manchester United outfield player who proved their worst at Newcastle. Lisandro Martinez cut out attacks and kept the hosts at bay on multiple occasions.
Luke Shaw – 5
Was caught out of position for Newcastle’s opener as Shaw failed to create much down the left and from set-pieces, with Newcastle using their aerial superiority to great effect.
Scott McTominay – 5
Erik Ten Hag made a big call in starting McTominay, and the decision proved to be the wrong one as the midfielder was unable to replicate his recent international form with Scotland in the attack.
Marcel Sabitzer – 6
A difficult game for the Austrian international, yet Sabitzer did better than the majority of his Manchester United counterparts, with the midfielder showing some quality and ambition with his forward passes and movement.
Antony – 5
Enjoyed Manchester United’s best chance of the first-half but struggled for most of the game in what was a physical fixture for Antony, who struggled against Dan Burn as the Brazilian was forced to switch wings with Rashford.
Bruno Fernandes – 4
Another frustrating game for the captain on the day as Fernandes was unable to break down Newcastle’s backline and was sloppy on the ball in Manchester United’s more desperate moments against the Toon.
Marcus Rashford – 5
Having missed out on international duty due to a minor injury, Marcus Rashford still looked well below his best in a quiet game for the England superstar.
Wout Weghorst – 4
Potentially Weghorst’s worst game since signing for Manchester United. Registered the fewest touches from any outfield player and was unable to spring any of the attackers into action when given the chance.

Jadon Sancho – 6
Could have benefitted from starting ahead of Antony, yet Jadon Sancho will be disappointed with his minimal impact against Newcastle.
Anthony Martial – 6
A first appearance since mid-January, Martial came on in the final 30 minutes to salvage anything for Manchester United, though the striker looked rusty and in need of more minutes to get up to speed.
Fred – 6
Came on with ten minutes to go and did little to change Manchester United’s fortunes.
Facundo Pellistri – 6
Brought on to add more attacking options to Manchester United’s system but did nothing to break Newcastle down.
Victor Lindelof – 6
Replaced both of Manchester United’s centre-backs in a surprise move from Erik Ten Hag in the 82nd minute. Arguably at fault for Calum Wilson’s 89th-minute header having lost his marker so easily.
