Manchester United fans react to Fred performance v Barcelona

Few players divide opinion at Manchester United quite like Fred, and his performance against Barcelona showed why.

The Brazilian featured prominently in the best moment of the match, playing a pass to Marcus Rashford for Manchester United’s first goal.

But it was not possible to give Fred too much credit, as just minutes earlier, he had lost his man at the corner to allow Marcos Alonso to put Barcelona 1-0 up with a header.

Fred worked hard as ever, earning the free-kick which saw Gavi booked and suspended for the second leg.

He might have left the game being relieved not to have given away a late penalty. A headed knockdown struck his arm, and fortunately a decision was ruled accidental.

United earned a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp, which quite easily could have been better, or worse. It is all to play for in the second leg.

This game was an opportunity for Fred to solidify his place in the line-up for next week’s second leg, and the Carabao Cup final, with Marcel Sabiter now set to be available. But the jury is still out.

He won seven duels, while committing six fouls, completing 22 of 31 pass attempts (71 per cent).
