This was just the type of win and performance Manchester United needed, a confidence-boosting victory at Old Trafford.
Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial scored goals, while the evening was also notable for teenager Dan Gore making his debut in the second half.
United will play Palace again at the weekend in the Premier League, looking for a repeat performance and result.

Man of the match vote
Manchester United fans voted for the man of the match via the club website and official app. Here is a look at the breakdown…
- Casemiro: 64 per cent
- Alejandro Garnacho: 11 per cent
- Sofyan Amrabat: 11 per cent
- Facundo Pellistri: 4 per cent
- All other players three per cent or fewer
Fully deserved outcome
There were lots of candidates and while Casemiro was fully deserving, we didn’t expect he would win the vote by such a considerable distance.
Still, with a goal and assist, and more than 100 touches of the ball, Casemiro was a worthy recipient of the award.
Casemiro’s form has been up and down this season so far. This was a strong all round performance, admittedly against a weak opponent, but it’s what you want to see him do. There should be more of this to come from him.
