Manchester United supporters have named the team’s man of the match in a hard fought draw with Liverpool.
Manchester United’s players showed great mental concentration along with competing well physically at Anfield, to claim a point.
Everything was set up against Manchester United for this one. The team’s poor away form against top sides, Liverpool’s strong form this season, United recently crashing out of the Champions League and being at a low ebb, suspensions and injuries, and last season’s 7-0 hammering.
None of it mattered, with Manchester United frustrating Liverpool to earn a 0-0 draw, and had the chances to win the game too.

Manchester United fans name man of the match
Manchester United supporters voted for the man of the match against Liverpool via a poll on the club website and app.
The results of the poll was close run, and featured a deserving winner…
- Raphael Varane: 36 per cent
- Andre Onana: 23 per cent
- Kobbie Mainoo: 15 per cent
- Diogo Dalot: 5 per cent
- All other players four per cent or less
You could make a case for quite a few more players to feature highly, it was such a strong team performance.
Varane back and making an impact
Raphael Varane‘s performance in Manchester United’s defence was eye-catching because it was so dominant, and because he has been out of the side in recent weeks.
This was his first Premier League start since the game in September against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag had few options, with Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez all unavailable. Varane stepped up and showed he can still be counted on.
