Manchester United beat Newport 4-2 in the FA Cup – with Antony getting his first goal of the season during the fixture.
It’s safe to say it’s been a tough season for the former Ajax man. Antony has struggled on Manchester United‘s right flank, which has reflected in some seriously poor stats.
Before this game, the Brazilian had zero goals or assists in a whopping 22 games for the first-team squad. Seriously worrying numbers for an £85m man.
However, after the FA Cup clash – has he redeemed himself with a goal and an assist? Manchester United fans have a lot to say, that’s for sure.

Manchester United fans on Antony’s performance
The consensus from Manchester United fans seems to be that, despite Antony’s stats looking pretty good, the Brazilian was still pretty poor against the League Two opposition.
Fans flooded to X to comment on Erik ten Hag‘s 2022 signing – which were all mostly negative.
A first writes: ‘The lad works hard but lacks the competent and efficient skill to beat his man and find his striker or the goal. His level of unpredictability is minimal and opponent fullbacks at all levels lick their lips at the duty to defend against this man.’
A second states: ‘I like to troll here and there but in all honestly. Pretty subpar, even for his standards. He got a goal and an assist but don’t let that blind you from the fact he was frankly terrible throughout the rest of the game. Hopefully, this game was just a stepping stone for a new Antony.’
‘Usually, he’s decent with no G/A. Today he was dreadful with 2 G/A. He’s so frustrating to watch,’ another adds.
Despite Antony’s stats improving, fans are still on his back for his general performance. They also aren’t too fond of how he celebrated.
Manchester United fans on Antony’s celebration
It appeared that after scoring, Antony was making up for missed opportunities with his celebrations. He pulled out a new one and did about five more – which also got fans talking.
A first states: ‘Antony whipping out 5 celebrations against Newport… shameless.’
‘Antony just did 4 celebrations for a tap In against Newport County,’ another says.
A final adds: ‘Still can’t believe Antony whipped out 5 celebrations and did a prayer.’
It was maybe a little over the top, but to be fair to Antony, this was his most influential game in a good while. However, it is League Two opposition. He should be dominating.
It’ll be interesting to see how this shapes him for the rest of the season.
