Ruben Amorim is on the losing end again as Manchester United lost 4-1 to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
It was a game to forget for Ruben Amorim’s side. Manchester United were woeful against the Geordies, particularly in the second half.
United had an abundance of bad performers. Altay Bayindir and the defence in front of him were particularly poor – but no one exactly really stood out.

It was another miserable afternoon – and that’s reflected in some seriously ludicrous statistics.
Ruben Amorim ships four for the first time since 2021
Sunday’s fixture was only the second time that Amorim has seen his side concede four goals in a top-flight match.
The last was when his Sporting Lisbon side lost 4-3 to Benfica in May 2021. There have been 188 matches managed by the Portuguese in between this time.
The major difference, United could only put one past Newcastle, at least Sporting were somewhat close despite shipping four.

Manchester United’s lowest-ever Premier League points tally is guaranteed
Yes, even if Amorim and his Manchester United side were to win every single home game from now on – it would still be the Red Devils’ lowest-ever Premier League points tally.
While United’s worst finish is 7th, they actually accumulated their worst points total in 2021/22 when they amassed just 58 points. They won’t even obtain that this season, however.
Amorim’s side shipping as many goals as relegation candidates
Since Amorim’s first game in charge, only Southampton (59), Spurs (53) and Leicester (53) have shipped more goals in all competitions than Man Utd (48) among Premier League clubs.

And the worst part is, it isn’t exactly as if they’re making up for it at the other end. United are somewhat shocking in attack, and defence.
Newcastle’s first double over Man Utd in 94 years
The Geordies haven’t beaten United twice in the league since 1931.
Eddie Howe’s side became the fourth team to do the league double over United this season (Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham being the others).
This is, in fact, the most teams to win home and away against the Red Devils in a league campaign since 1957/58 (4).
Most defeats in a Premier League season equalled
The loss to Newcastle was United’s 14th league defeat this season, which is their joint-highest tally since… well, last season.

If they lose two more before the end of the campaign, United will equal their worst-ever top-flight season ever – which was 16 losses in 38 games in the 1989/90 season.
Newcastle not scored four against United for 24 years
Finally, the Geordies scoring four goals against the Red Devils means that they scored four against United for the first time in 24 years.
Six, quite horrible, statistics. The worst bit is, it could get infinitely worse as the Premier League season comes to a conclusion.
