Man Utd ratings vs Man City, Altay Bayindir poor for 3/10 but 2/10 player had the true nightmare

Manchester United’s difficult start to the season continued as they were beaten by Man City 3-0 at The Etihad Stadium.

A fairly even and hectic start to the derby was given its first goal by Phil Foden after Jeremy Doku skipped past multiple Man Utd players to cross for him.

United looked rattled in the immediate aftermath of conceding, but built back into it with some spells of possession, but without penetration, going in at half-time trailing 1-0.

United started the second half well, but were again undone by Haaland’s clinical finishing as City scored with their first real chance to double the lead.

A third sucker punch followed another spell of possession as Haaland ran clean through after Shaw lost the ball to end the game as a contest.

Altay Bayindir – 3

Couldn’t do anything for the first goal and was easily beaten for the second and third. Looks extremely jittery.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6

Haaland gave him a tough time, and then Doku, but he was mostly up to the task. No glaring errors.

Leny Yoro – 5

Was up against electric Doku but kept up well with him in his one-on-ones until he was held off by him for City’s second.

Luke Shaw – 2

Beaten too easily by Doku for the first goal, and outmuscled by Haaland for the second. Lost the ball for the third to punctuate a nightmare performance.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6

Says a lot that Doku created the goal and looked the most threatening when he left Mazraoui’s right wing. Calm and confident.

Patrick Dorgu – 4

Full of energy and enterprise but lacking quality on the ball.

Manuel Ugarte – 4

Did his inclusion justice in the first half before his level went down in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes – 4

A lack of positional discipline left United with an empty midfield. Failed to track Foden in the box for the goal.

Amad – 6

United needed more from him, especially on the ball. Was average but that’s not his standard.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6

Much like Amad, he found himself in threatening positions but had no killer touch.

Benjamin Sesko – 6.5

Tested Donnarumma twice by making the most of poor service.

Substitutes

Kobbie Mainoo – 6.5

Progressed the ball well after coming on.

Harry Maguire – 6

Not much impact. A defender coming on when the team is trailing 2-0 is confusing as it is.

Joshua Zirkzee – 6

Came on late. Not much impact.

Casemiro – 6

Similar to Zirkzee. Had one good chance but fluffed it.
