Manchester United claimed all three points on offer at Old Trafford as the Premier League campaign began.
Erik ten Hag watched his side open the 2024/25 season up with not just a win, but a clean sheet to boot.
It was not like Manchester United got lucky either, with more chances, possession and more – it should have been a high-scoring game.
Joshua Zirkzee scored the winning goal in the game, while Casemiro was arguably the most impactful player over the entire 90 minutes.
However, after the game it was Lisandro Martinez chosen for media duties and this led to a brilliant moment between the Argentine and Jamie Carragher.

What happened between Martinez and Carragher
When Martinez first arrived in England, he was labelled as being too small for the Premier League, with Carragher among his most vocal critics before changing his mind.
So when Gary Neville asked him about the physical side of the Premier League on Friday after the game, what Martinez did was brilliant.
The defender did not even hesitate before gesturing to Carragher and asking Neville if he wanted Carragher to answer – clearly remembering the Liverpool legend’s comments.
After this – Carragher walked over to Martinez and stood side by side where he realised that they are actually very similar heights, clearly backtracking over those earlier comments.
After seeing this brilliant interview, United fans have been reacting.
How Manchester United fans reacted to Martinez and Carragher moment
United fans on X found this interaction hilarious and took to social media to post about it.
One fan wrote: “Lisandro Martinez is actually nearly taller than Jamie Carragher… ‘Too small to play in the Premier League‘”.
Another added: “Carra and Lisandro being the same height after spouting all that rubbish is hilarious”.
A large United fan page wrote: “They finally meet. Look at the height. Lisandro Martinez isn’t so small after all.”
A fourth found it hilarious: “Nothing to see here. Just Jamie Carragher who has spent the last 2 years calling Lisandro Martinez ‘too small’ for the Premier League realising he’s a similar size to him”.
Martinez showed a real personality in this interview and it proves the point that he is tailor-made for this club. He even left Roy Keane beaming as he spoke.
