Manchester United fans are convinced that Christian Eriksen’s legs are “done” and believe that he should be a “supersub” after his performance against Luton Town.
Eriksen impressed at Old Trafford during his debut season, but the 31-year-old Danish midfielder has had a more reduced role under Erik ten Hag this season.
Ahead of the Luton clash at Old Trafford, the United star had started only five of the Red Devils’ opening 11 matches in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.
Eriksen started in midfield alongside Scott McTominay for the Luton match and the United midfielder failed to impress fans with his performance on Saturday.
The Denmark international didn’t see out the first half for United either, with Eriksen limping off before half-time and being replaced with Mason Mount.

United fans react to Eriksen’s performance
Eriksen’s lack of pace in the first half left United fans questioning if he should start for the club and the best way for Ten Hag to utilise him going forward.
“Eriksen is unbelievably slow,” one fan simply said.
Another added: “Eriksen’s legs are done.”
“Eriksen is so weak and slow,” a third wrote.
Someone else commented: “Eriksen is slow, man, shouldn’t be a starter.”
While a fifth posted: “Eriksen is done. Zero pace.”
And a sixth tweeted: “Eriksen needs to be a supersub, he can’t keep up with fresh legs.”
One X, formerly Twitter, user stated: “Eriksen kills me, man. How slow is that brother.”
The Eriksen conundrum for Ten Hag
Among the many issues that Ten Hag has faced this season, the under-fire United manager is facing a big question over what to do with Eriksen in the short term.
United have struggled to keep up the pace and momentum in midfield this season, with neither Eriksen nor ex-Real Madrid star Casemiro getting any younger.
Ten Hag’s midfield holding partnership for United can easily become overwhelmed if one player is caught out or if one of his men doesn’t have the legs to keep up.
Sofyan Amrabat and McTominay aren’t the solutions to this problem either, but former Ajax boss Ten Hag does have an option with Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo has recovered from his injury and made the bench for the Luton match, with the 18-year-old United prospect recently featuring against Copenhagen Under-19s.
The Red Devils midfielder does lack regular first-team experience, but Ten Hag should consider a major shake-up and utilise Mainoo as an option in midfield.
